Orion Custom Framing

Custom Maple Cabinetry for a High-End Framing Studio - San Francscio, CA

We were proud to design and fabricate a full suite of custom cabinetry for Orion Custom Framing, a premier frame shop and design studio in San Francisco. This project required a balance of elegance, utility, and client-facing presentation — all tailored to the daily demands of artwork handling and design consultation.

Scale, Simplicity, and Precision

The most striking elements are the two entryway counters, which span an impressive 16 feet and 14 feet in length. These were built in solid maple cabinetry with a clear coat finish, and topped with soft white Corian surfaces. The Corian wraps over the ends in a waterfall detail, offering clients a welcoming place to sit and review their artwork, frame selections, and matte options.

Specialized Storage for Creative Work

Behind the scenes, we constructed multiple custom units for the back-of-house area, all fabricated from matching maple. These include:

  • Flat file drawers and open slotted storage for delicate client artwork

  • Compartments for matteboard and tools

  • Built-in power access and wiring for framing equipment

  • A hidden cavity for machine and tool storage

  • An integrated sheet material storage rack, recessed into a custom alcove

Every cabinet was designed with recessed (sunken) pulls, ensuring a clean silhouette and preventing clients and staff from catching clothing or knees during use.
